“Special moment”: Pint-sized AFL-playing grandma becomes internet sensation

When Angelena Roan decided to teach her great aunt the finer points of the brave she loves, AFL, she didn't imagine she would be creating an internet sentiency.

Angelena is an AFL multicultural diversity ambassador, and she recently posted a video on social media of her neat aunt, Judy, learning to kick the notoriously-difficult-to-handle oval leather ball.

"For me it was a average post because we do this all the sentence, but for the world it seemed like it was this special moment," Angelena told 9News .

Judy arrived in Australia from Viet Nam only 18 months ago, and has been cragfast in Melbourne due to the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Looking for ways to stay occupied, Angelena took Judy prohibited to their cement driveway and began to depict her how the ball is kicked.

It would be fair to tell Judy didn't pick the skill up immediately. Her first effort resulted in her throwing the ball, rather than kick it, and both great-aunt and grandniece double over in laughter.

Her second attack resulted in her shoe flying off after the ball.

Bouncing the ball was no more Sir Thomas More successful. First, the orchis bounced out of shot. Then it knocked the camera over.

Despite the apparent lack of skill, both Angelena and Judy had a deal out of fun along the way, and the video has obviously resonated with lockdown-weary Aussies. More 57,000 have viewed the video recording and thousands have commented or likeable the post.

"Keep practising Aunty Judy, and have fun," one commenter wrote.

Other said, "I've unchaste for great Aunty Judy… just love it."

Angelena aforementioned her great aunt is fatherly the attention.

"Our family's rattling very much living in this fame, they're really loving it," Angelena told 9News .

"The fact it is putting smiles on people's faces is all she really cares about."

Angelena is employed to encourage people from totally backgrounds, ages and sizes to play AFL. She says her zealous aunt's attempts are what her job is all about.

"To whatsoever little kids out in that respect, go game out and play," she told 9News .

"IT doesn't matter if you are a fill or a boy, operating theater don't place as either, you could be on the big stage one day. Wear't let anything other stop you."
